Tropical Living

What’s So Remarkable About Tropical Living?

My name is Alison Tilley and I am the founder and CEO of TropicalLiving.com, an unusual tropical travel, homeware and lifestyle company that advocates slowing down, reconnecting and enjoying more “Leisure in Luxury.”

The dictionary definition of remarkable is “notably or conspicuously unusual, striking, extraordinary, wonderful, unusual, uncommon.”

Here are just a few of the things that make Tropical Living so remarkable.

The story begins with extensive world travel…

I traveled around the world 10 times looking for the most beautiful islands and spa villas in the world.

At 14, with money earned from modeling, I joined a small group of teenagers and was shipwrecked on an island in the Bahamas. At 16, I explored Europe alone. At 19, I moved to Bali, Indonesia started my own import/export homeware company called “Alison Wonderland”. At 20, I moved to Kathmandu, Nepal and created an international knitwear company with 65 employees. At 22, I wrote, self-published and sold 250,000 copies of my travel tip book and became known as a travel expert on television.

At 23, I was exhausted, anxious and stressed. I purposely deserted myself on an island in the Kingdom of Tonga. In the solitude, I made a “mid course correction”, I wrote lists and re-designed my life.

I continued island hopping for years. My new mission was to find the most beautiful islands on earth. I settled on a tropical island in the middle of the Pacific, found the man of my dreams and got married barefoot on a magnificent beach.

Two weeks after my 35th birthday, I awoke at 2:37 a.m. I stared at the clock and knew in that moment that my life had changed forever. A flicker had sparked my passion and I gave birth to the concept of Tropical Living. With all of the islands, spa villas and tropical homeware I had enjoyed, the time to help others live the tropical lifestyle had arrived.

What inspired me was my genuine concern about the speed of life, the lack of leisure time and its effect on people. I wanted to provide solutions so people could live happier, healthier, more balanced lives.

I spent the next 4 years creating a remarkable website. It was designed to be beautiful, personal, informative and inspiring. I’ve highlighted the beauty of each property and homeware collection by including thousands of amazing photographs and pertinent information. I wrote and recorded over 100 audio clips (along with accompanying text). These clips were recorded for people to know me better and inspire them to slow down, reconnect and celebrate life at home and abroad. Topics include ‘How Leisure Time has Become Endangered’, ‘Designing Your Life’, ‘Honoring the Passage of Divorce’, ‘The Five Factors to Happy People’, and more.

Video clips, water color maps, our unusual inquiry form and personal, one-on-one, well-traveled specialists make decisions easier.

I wanted to help end world hunger and improve peoples lives worldwide. As Tropical Living’s way of saying “thank you”, whenever you buy an island, rent one of our properties for a week or longer, or buy one of our homeware collections, Tropical Living will purchase a livestock animal from Heifer International, on your behalf, for a family in need. It could be a cow, a goat, a llama, sheep, a water buffalo or a flock of geese, chickens or ducks. The site includes the sounds of each animal and explains how they help make a difference each in their own way.

The Tropical Living Island Tribe online newsletter is for people who love tropical islands, luxury spas, naturally modern homeware and the tropical lifestyle. It’s for those who appreciate ‘Leisure in Luxury’.

Combining luxury tropical travel, homeware, philosophy and philanthropy has never been done like this before.
